IOWA IMAGES: DUTCH IMMIGRANT HISTORY ILLUSTRATED
by Irene Kooi Chadwick
MEET AUTHOR

Irene Kooi Chadwick lived in the San Joaquin Valley of California for 40 years before recently moving to Avila Beach on the Central Coast of California. Her poems are published in magazines, literary journals and anthologies; a book of poems, Dawn Pearl published in 1994, remains in print. Her nonfiction book, Iowa Images: Dutch immigrant history illustrated came out in 2004. Before writing books she published travel stories and photos in USA and Canadian periodicals from Timbuktu, Tashkent, South Africa and other locations.

From Journal of Western Literature review: "In Dawn Pearl the unforgettable inhabitants of Chadwick's poems are rendered vividly through detail. 'Tied thumb-to-thumb Yokut Indians/tramped a Trial of Tears up/Arroyo de Los Banos Del Padre-Arroyo/over the Diablo Range.' By poem's end modern day canyon travelers are as vulnerable. Their future and ours has been thrown into question."

From Doon Press review: "Iowa Images: Dutch immigrant history illustrated is history told by a crafted storyteller. And if you are think the lives lived by rural folks a couple of generations back in the old-time Dutch tradition was boring, you would be wrong. Irene Kooi Chadwick was raised at rural Hospers, Iowa in Sioux County, the tenth of twelve children born in a farmhouse."
